Summary/Abstract: The goal of the paper is to indicate the essential risk factors for alpine skiing and ski tourism, both objective and subjective. The reflections on skiing risk relate to the mathematical risk theory, and the epidemiological perspective of accidental skiing analysis. Particular emphasis has been given to resort recreational skiing and off-piste skiing and ski touring. The paper also mentions other forms of skiing and related snow sports, postulating their classification. It looks at the notion of ski rescue in Poland, and the prospects for its development, including the need to associate ski rescuers who do not have their own organisation. The issues of mountain rescue, altitude and medical care were addressed to a lesser extent.
