Summary/Abstract: The subject of the article is Canadian Rangers, which has been a volunteer reserve formation for 70 years in the armed forces of Canada. It functions as a territorial defence in hard-to-reach areas of the country. Canada regards the Arctic as one of the most important directions of its foreign and security policy. In political rhetoric are proclaimed slogans defending Canadian sovereignty and armed presence in the far North. These tasks fill the five thousand-strong Rangers unit, fully prepared for constant patrol service. Natural conditions, the vastness of Canada’s territory and its low population make the role of the army significant and much greater in crisis response than in other NATO countries. Hence the importance of Rangers formation capable of conducting search and rescue operations.
