Summary/Abstract: The development of regional competitiveness is the result of conditions and factors which are both exogenous and endogenous in nature. Strategic planning should account for the need of creating a competitive product in border areas. The product of competitiveness in the border area is a combination of its resources and a network of relations occurring in the region with a special emphasis on crossborder connections. One of the elements of building competitiveness in Eastern Poland is the modern material, institutional and intellectual infrastructure. The development of the Eastern border region requires an increased involvement of the private sector in collaboration related to pro-innovative activity in the context of incurring higher costs, but also a closer cooperation with other institutions supporting economic innovativeness and competitiveness.
