Summary/Abstract: The concept of smart city is a response to the challenges of a changing technologically and socially public space of XXI century. The implementation of this idea will help improving the operation of cities, increasing the efficiency’s use of their resources and residents’ quality of life. All this may happens by means of solutions based on new communication technologies. Preliminary studies indicate that Polish cities are beginning to get interested in intelligent solutions, but this is usually not associated with long-term planning [Rabiej, Romanowski 2013, p. 3]. Meanwhile, in order to create a smart city, long-term action is needed, based on a coherent strategy taking into account the difference of the needs of all stakeholders. A good example of Polish city that is trying to implement the assumptions of the concept of smart city is Poznań. The aim of this article is to present the initiatives that bring closer a capital of Wielkopolska to become a smart city and linking them with the statements of the development strategy for the city of Poznan. Using the case study method, the author presents eight projects implemented by the City of Poznan. As a result of analysis and synthesis of available information, they have been compiled in a comparative table to identify a leading areas of development the smart city concept in Poznan.
