Summary/Abstract: Lorenc Antoni (Shkup 1909 – Prishtinë 1991) is one of first musicians in Kosova who dealt with collecting Albanian musical folklore. This paper was written in the occasion of marking his 100th birthday, organized by the session of arts in the Kosovo Academy of Science and Arts. In 7 collections published in the period 1956-1977, titled “Folklori Muzikor Shqiptar/Albanian Musical Folklore”, he had collected notographed and published around 800 songs. He had explored this material in Kosovo, Serbia, FYR of Macedonia and Montenegro. This paper deals with the value, relevance and methodology of L. Antoni’s work in the field of ethnomusicology. In order to explain these, there is made an analysis within the complex of edited material. There is made a critical evaluation of some mistakes and failures dealing with the methods of classification and ethnomusicological analyses occurring within the structure of melo-poetic verses –twoverses, or strophe, as a musical wholeness of the song forms presented in this collection. Then there are made some remarks regarding the analyses of rhythmic measures and tonal bases, or musical scales (moduses) etc. It is emphasized that with Lorenc Antoni’s work in melographing of our folkloric songs and their publication in Kosovo begins development of ethnomusicology, by what this science starts to be placed in a new foundation. It is highlighted that Lorenc Antoni;s general work is a relevant realization also for the fact that, within that time existing possibilities and experiences he had tried to valorize the music of our genuine popular tradition and its esthetic values of that part of heritage defined with the notions, oral musical creativity; oral melopoetics; folkloric musical creativity etc. Lorenc Antoni’s work is a good base for different studies, respectively for further development of ethnomusicological studies in Kosova.
