Summary/Abstract: The article is supposed to present the picture of Pomeranian Duke Ulrich I (1589–1622),the youngest son of Bogislaw XIII and Clara of Braunschweig-Lüneburg, which wasincluded in the travel journal written by Philipp Hainhofer. He was invited by Philip IIand left a detailed description of his stay in Pomerania. Thanks to his observations concerning people, places, customs and various peculiarities his travel relation is a valuablesource of information to study selected aspects of everyday life at the 17th-century courtof the Pomeranian dukes. While staying at Pomerania, Philipp had the chance to havea careful look at Duke Ulrich. Philipp’s description of the duke allows to reconstruct a full picture of Ulrich. In thelight of his travel journal the duke was an appropriate companion for the art connoisseurof Augsburg, at the same level as Philip II.
