Summary/Abstract: The paper analyzes Serbian oral stories which Vuk entered into his Srpski rječnik (Serbian Dictionary) from 1818. As it turns out, he included all types of stories established by an international classification. He did not determine the types terminologically, but instead formed entries from different stories in different ways. The story could be a whole entry, just one of its parts or be connected with an entry through associations of some phenomena. In such a way he managed to used an important feature of stories – their tendency to explain, so many words in the Dictionary are interpreted through stories. At the same time he provided an insight into the oral history, psychology, beliefs, life and customs of Serbian people.
