Summary/Abstract: Purpose of the Article – to reveal the role of ballet masters of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries in the development of dance techniques on pointe shoes. Methodology. The combination of methods of analysis and synthesis, the chronological principle of the consideration of events made it possible to conduct a scientifically objective study. Scientific novelty. The scientific innovation of the article is to justify the concept of the leading role of choreographers in the evolution of dance techniques on pointe shoes in the XIX-XX centuries. Conclusions. One of the main factors of the development of dance on pointe shoes in the XIX-XX centuries was the work of choreographers. The dance technique on pointe shoes became the defining element of classical choreography, evolved on the way to virtuosity – an essential factor in the development of ballet: the first attempts to rise to the fingertips (realization of the artistic concepts of Ch. Didlo in the preromantic era); the formation of a new style of romantic ballet through the statement of dance on pointe shoes (F. Tagloni); expansion of its capabilities, complication and increase in the number of finger movements (M. Petipa); renewal (M. Fokine); reforming the technique of performance in the works of the apologist neoclassic and stubborn supporter of finger technique – J. Balanchine.
