Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the article is to analyze works on the history of world art on a realistic method of their creation, to study events that influenced the world of artists and the process of education, and the views of artists on the place of realism in art on the example of the theoretical works of representatives of aesthetic thought. Of the research is based on the application of such scientific methods as analytical, structural for the study of the notion of realism in the formation; historical-chronological in the definition of historical periods of origin and development of a realistic method and a theoretical and art-study approach in the research of scientific works, which highlights the main views on realism in fine arts. Scientific novelty consists of a comprehensive understanding of the principles of Realism as a method in the fiction and fine arts. Conclusions. The analysis made it possible to state: the history of world art gives us numerous examples of the fact that the highest perfection was achieved only by those masters, schools, and trends that creatively absorbed the best created by humankind in previous eras. For contemporary art education, which is based on realistic principles, it is essential to study the heritage of the national Ukrainian school of painting and national schools of the world. Especially notable is the fact that in this way students join in all valuable in the field of artistic craftsmanship, which was accumulated in the epoch of the highest rise of world art.
