GREEK ASSOCIATIONS IN ATHENS IN THE RAPPROCHEMENT PROCESS OF TURKISH - GREEK RELATIONS AFTER 2000 EXAMPLE OF UNIVERSAL FEDERATION OF ISTANBULITE GREEKS AND ASSOCIATIONS OF IMROZ RESIDENTS IN ATHENS

Summary/Abstract: During the disturbance occurred in Cyprus between 1963 and 1964, a series of decisions were take regarding the residence permits of Greek citizens in Turkey. A large number of Greek people migrated to Athens for this reasons. Based on the rapprochement in the Turkey - Greece relations during the period of 2000 and 2002 and the literature review about the mutual protocols made in this context and based on the data from certain interviews made during a field study about the Greek Associations in Athens, this article addresses the activities of Greek Associations in Athens from the viewpoint of the examples of Universal Federation of Istanbulite Greeks and Associations of Imroz Residents in Athens. In this context, this article discusses the relations of Greek associations with Turkish and Greek governments, communities, and local administrations of the current domiciles and homelands of the association members especially during 2000’s.
