Summary/Abstract: The present paper deals with the Cultural memory in the cities in Roman Thrace on the base of the Foundation myth and the cult to the Founder. The complex study of all the evidence available – epigraphic, numismatic, and ancient historical narratives reveals how the Past was treated and developed in various cities due to the need and ambition of the municipal elite or part of it in the cities – coastal and inner land. The study has preliminary character and all the phenomena in the field are discussed, but just the main ones – those of ex-novo Roman cities and older Greek coastal colonies are clearly distinguished. Besides, the impact of the imperial presence and the so-called ‘Second Sophistics’ movement are also discussed.
