Summary/Abstract: In the constantly changing world, the forms of family life and family functions also keep changing. The attitudes of a father or a mother are the most important indicators of their child’s success. An unquestionable role in maintaining the effects of child’s work is played by parents and their attitudes. For parents the cooperation with a specialist providing child’s care should be supportive. Main test: There are many typologies of parental attitudes. We chose M. Ziemska’s typology of attitudes. Although it is the oldest typology, it is coherent and orders therapeutic work well. Working with parents, a therapist must specify what parental attitudes he deals with, what is the emotional distance of parents and the degree of parents’ domination over a child. A positive attitude is presented by parents who are neither too lenient, not too dominating towards their children and their emotional distance towards children is neither too small nor too big. Any disorders within a childparent contact are the factors indicating the types of improper parental attitudes: avoiding attitude, excessively demanding attitude, overprotective attitude and rejecting attitude. Conclusions: The aim of working with parents is to teach them such attitudes towards a child that they are eager to acquire. Parents must be offered forms of help and therapy and must be informed how the specialist work is going to look like.
