The dynamics of Russian axiological worldview reflected in the lexicon: From postSoviet to postperestroika values

Summary/Abstract: The article describes the changes which have taken place in the Russian lexicon of values over the last two decades. The author deals with domains which link words with similar meanings. These are: social adaptation (changes in the words приспособиться ‘adapt to’, устраиваться ‘settle down’, компромисс ‘compromise’, принципиальный ‘full of principles’, комфортный ‘comfortable’ etc.); private life (любить себя ‘love oneself’, эгоист ‘egoist’, позиционировать себя ‘localize oneself’); pragmatism and possessions (позитивный ‘positive’, престижный ‘prestigious’, сытый ‘satiated’, самодостаточный ‘self-sufficient’); mental health and anti-idealism (энтузиазм ‘enthusiasm’, рвение ‘zeal’, пристрастие ‘passion’, интерес ‘interest’, ажиотаж ‘excitement’, экстаз ‘ecstasy’, романтика ‘romanticism’); intimate life (откровенный ‘open’, ориентация ‘orientation’, возбудиться ‘become excited/aroused’), etc.
