Summary/Abstract: In recent years, the way of speaking about memory in many spheres of Polish discourse has changed dramatically. Three hundred collocations with the word pamięć ‘memory’ have been excerpted from press articles of the last decade and several monographs on collective memory. It has been noticed that the word is regularly pluralized now and has extended its collocability onto new lexical areas. These changes result from those in how memory is thought about and perceived. While still a value, in the Polish linguistic worldview memory is no longer a mere disposition of the mind, a receptacle for and carrier of images and sensations, but also a matter which both effects and is subject to changes, an object of conscious acts. The change, directly connected with the debate concerning Polish collective memory and non-memory, as well as the rules of historical policy, is an important factor which shapes the discourse of Polish identity.
