Summary/Abstract: The author analyses Polish translation, by Henryk Podbielski, of Aristotle’s Poetics, in order to identify what equivalents the translator has found for ei)=doj and ge/noj, which, in turn, affects one’s understanding of the genological issues at stake: Can one possibly read and ancient text so that the original meanings of words could be reconstructed or their contemporary analogous terms/notions discovered on its basis? Translating through assumed resolutions removing unclear items of the original, as combined with a system of footnotes and commentaries, renders understanding of a literary genre akin to structuralist concepts.
