Summary/Abstract: The paper continues studies on the problem of lexical moravisms. It is focused on the word балёё ‘medical man, healer, magician’ and its derivates. A review of the literature on word балии reveals that there are no linguistic grounds for considering it as moravism. The idea of the West Slavonic origin of this word is based on non-linguistic considerations. Etymological analysis also does not support this idea. The analysis of the use of балии and its derivates in ancient texts shows that they are an indispensable part of the Old Bulgarian lexicon. Possibly балии has left a trace in the Bulgarian language, but this can not be considered proven.
