Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is an attempt to reinterpret the concept of borderland identity as a category of borderland sociology. The presented concept, in reference to the essence of the identity and the borderland, takes into account both the identity of the majority as well as cultural minorities living on the borderlands. It has been presented so that it could be applicable to the implementation of empirical research. In conclusion, the Author distinguished three types of collective identities defined as borderline identities: binding identity, borderland identity and inter-border identity.
