Evolution of Audiovisual Translation in Romania

Summary/Abstract: This article describe and present the role of the translator in the process of audiovisual translation in Romania, outlining its role in the two most widely used forms of audiovisual translation in this country: subtitling and dubbing. Throughout this journey, the first step belongs to the audiovisual translation professional, the fundamental axis whose work depends on the following stages of the process. The importance of this type of profession and the shortage of literature on this subject, especially in Romania, it has taken us to realize this analysis. Also, we try to display the status and development of the profession, its evolution and variation over the past two decades thanks to the socio-political change, technological progress and the new education plan, which influenced the current profile of this professional. With this study we hope to change their status to "invisible", as defined Venutti (1995), and give visibility delineating the characteristics of their socio-professional and academic profile in Romania.
