Summary/Abstract: The Turnovo Constitution marked the resurrection of Bulgarian statehood. It was not imposed from the outside and adopted uncritically by a Constituent Assembly, it was the work of those who deserved national liberation struggles and enlightened Bulgarians. The first Bulgarian constitution carries in it the patriotic spirit and the bitter disappointment of the division of nation and statehood, the idea and the dream of a modern but united Bulgaria.
