The Socio-Cultural Context of the Literary Folklore Collections in Serbian Banat

Summary/Abstract: Radu Flora, a well-known linguist, folklorist, poet, translator, novelist from the former Yugoslavia, a prominent personality who radiated through his inexhaustible creative force, which also denotes his rich work and his multilateral engagement in the interest of his ethnicity and Culture of Romanians in Serbia. Today the literary folklore of the Serbian Banat is collected and published due to field researches of the Folklore Commission of the Romanian Language and Literature Society in Vojvodina, coordinated by well known linguist and folklorist, Radu Flora. The literary folklore, kept in the memory of the investigators from the Romanian villages in the Serbian Banat, was collected by almost 50 collectors. The poetic material was collected from almost 40 localities in the Serbian Banat with Romanian population, summing up the number of nearly 6000 popular poems collected (including here and the variants), from almost 700 informants. The popular creation collected on the field a few years later was published in two major collections of literary folklore, under the coordination of Radu Flora. The present paper presents the socio-cultural context of the collections of literary folklore from the Serbian Banat, published under the coordination of the renowned professor, Radu Flora.
