Summary/Abstract: The article is the effect of the author's research concerning innovations in the lexical store of the contemporary Russian language. Due to the narrow constructive frames of expression the author analyses only selected phenomena paying special attention to the relations taking place between the so-called dictionary existence of words and the dynamic life of other words in the journalistic text. Within this field there take dynamic, migratory processes, which particularly refers to the lexis describing soviethood on the one hand and the revived lexis that, for decades, led a calm „dictionary” existence, on the other. While interpreting this very phenomenon the au thor associates many of her observations with new idiomatic expressions and generally neologisms and occasionalisms. Summing up the content of her deliberations she states that for a foreign researcher the most intriguing meanings are the ones discovered beyond the text and in the subtext. Provided we manage to cope with the difficulties of comprehension, we expe rience the sensation that can be referred to as the joy of cognition.
