Summary/Abstract: The paper constitutes the first part of linguistic considerations on forms of Polish plural nouns ending with the suffixes {-an} or [-anin}. It discusses the history of both formations, and points to problems that result from the homonymy of their plural forms. However, the analysis of uses of these types of derivatives in the 16th-century texts enabled me to indicate certain phonetic and morphological features which make it possible to distinguish between several {pluralis} forms. An important part of the paper presents the abundant illustrative material that comes from Renaissance texts and materials from {The Dictionary of the 16th-Century Polish Language}.
