Summary/Abstract: Pupils are often exposed to a reality they are not aware of and thus cannot acknowledge and manage properly. They come across ideas, values, social conventions that may alter their correct view or perception on things. Children adhere involuntarily to this hidden curriculum and its influence can be seen both in their attitude and behaviour. Gender stereotypes as an aspect of the hidden curriculum generate social inequity, represent the result of negative education, and have a deep anti-educational character. This paper intends to raise awareness about the necessity of studying the subliminal curriculum, its effects in general, and the causes that lead to gender stereotypes in particular; also, implementing remedies and intervention strategies to counteract these stereotypes needs to become a fundamental priority of any real educational enterprise.
