Summary/Abstract: In the context of the European statistics indicating an alarming increase in the number of single parent families (approximately 20%), and since research regarding mono-parenthood is frequently reduced to legal aspects connected with poverty and marginalization, our study aims to prove that the experience of being a single parent is not necessarily devastating for the adult or the child, but it is definitely not always comfortable. It remains a particular family experience that leads to changes in the relationships between parents and children. Although much more significant, changes can depend on the time mother and father choose to spend, on the way in which the effects of separation have put their mark on adults and children, on the way in which both develop strategies to cope with problems and lifestyles.
