Economic and public safety aspects of the road traffic in the European Union and Poland

Summary/Abstract: Road accidents are generating economic and public high costs. Losses resulting from the long-lasting or temporary impossibility of creating GDP, expenses on the treatment and the rehabilitation of people injured in accidents, costs of involvement the emergency services, payment of compensations and benefits, financial losses or emotional suffering of accidents’ victims and accident’s perpetrator rela- tives, leading for restricting their economic initiative are the main costs. Statistical data presented in the article are pointing out to the high risk of road accidents. Also causes of unsatisfying level of the road safety improvement in Poland was presented.
