Summary/Abstract: The present paper looks at a type of language test commonly referred to as cloze test, which can be used both as a testing instrument and as a teaching tool, thus benefiting students of English as a foreign language. I begin with an overview of the concept of cloze procedure, with some emphasis on its origin and types, followed by a detailed analysis of one of the cloze tests I created for classroom use, based on the rational-deletion approach as opposed to the standard fixed-ratio procedure.
