Applied Music – Art or a Craft

Summary/Abstract: The tradition of applied music is relatively short, and therefore divergently intonated considerations in the scientific-theoretical discourse are caused. Its problem is based in the fact that it often addresses the patterns of times long gone. It also functions together with other non-musical factors, and this differs it from so-called “pure” music which owns an illusion of autonomy. We look at the artistic and / or craft nature of applied music on the example of film music - in the light of its tradition, from the historical perspective. Movements/processes in the sense of position changing give an answer to the question raised in the title.
