Summary/Abstract: The organic farming model in agricultural activity came to the fore with the results of research on soil contamination and mineral fertilization in the early twentieth century and showed itself in Switzerland in the 1950s. Nowadays, the most widespread use of organic agriculture is found in the European Union countries. However, the share of organic production in the total production remains below 5%. Organic farming practices have begun in Turkey with 8 kinds of products for crop production since the years 1985-1986. Today, the range of products has reached up to 250. The activity of organic animal husbandry started first in the apiculture sector and then it exhibited a rapid expansion in the fields of cattle breeding, sheep raising, and poultry husbandry. In the present study, the current status and development potential of organic poultry husbandry were tried to be revealed. In order to determine the current situation, data from the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock and from the body of literature were used. Considering the data for 2018 in this context, while there are 100 businesses performing organic poultry husbandry in Turkey, in the businesses in Samsun, İzmir, Afyonkarahisar, Elazig and Sakarya provinces, organic chicken meat and egg production are run together. The number of laying hen in the business of Turkey is 635.383 and 174.675.362 organic eggs are produced in these businesses. 1261 tons of organic chicken meat is obtained from 606.90 organic broiler hen grown in the businesses. Besides Samsun (27.922.500 units), Manisa (25.353.200 units) and Bolu (24.595.000 units) provinces stand out in the organic egg poultry industry.
