Summary/Abstract: The period of normalization of political and global relations between Yugoslavia and West Germany began in June 1951, after the exchange of ambassadors. In the following period, in dependence on international circumstances, these relations developed quicker or slowlier in an ascending line, though they were, from time to time, exposed also to more serious temptations. The period from the establishing to the break of diplomatic relations (1951- 1957) can be, theoretically generalized, characterized by the efforts of the governments of the Federative People’s Republic Yugoslavia and the West Germany to solve the open problems and develop friendly relations. As the conclusion for this period of bilateral relations (from the establishing to the break of diplomatic relations) the following imposes itself. The essential aim for West Germany was to realize its political interests (repatriation of all Germans - German prisoners of war, condemned German war criminals, as well as of Volksdeutschers), and, as a priority, the endeavors to prevent Yugoslavia from recognizing the Democratic Republic Germany. For Yugoslavia is characteristic the tendency to achieve its economic interests - as great a volume as possible of commercial exchange, to collect the payment of war and pre-war financial and other claims. Hence, from the Yugoslav side, political concessions to allow the realization of economical interests, and from the side of West Germany, the wish to realize the aims and interests in the domain of foreign policy, by making possible close commercial relations and by giving the loans.
