Summary/Abstract: Since the very beginning of its independence, Macedonia has been facing the big problem – ruined interethnic relations. In this respect, the issue of loyalty of the Albanian citizens to the new Macedonian state was very indicative. Although the Constitution protected their ethnic, cultural, linguistic and religious identity, the ethnic Albanians have constantly tried to widen their rights, first by using political pressure, and then using open violence. The process of national homogenization of the Albanian population constituted itself through armed activities of the separatist movement, with the main goal to create the united Albanian state in the Balkans.
