Summary/Abstract: The objective of the paper is an attempt to develop a typology of border cities. The typology will focus upon geopolitical determinants and their outcomes viewed in static and dynamic terms, all in the theoretical aspect. The synthesis of both approaches enabled 18 possible types of border cities to be isolated. Three of these were discussed in the form of case studies (Cieszyn, Chełm, Przemyśl).
