Summary/Abstract: One should come back to Slobodan Jovanović’s opus for various reasons – accuracy of thought, strength of argumentation, beauty of style. In this paper we will deal with his critics of half-intellectuals – unscrupulous materialist, a man highly educated but spiritually and morally underdeveloped – that brings S. Jovanović into sociology. He considers that the cause of half-intellectuals inflation is the absence of clearly defined cultural pattern and, consequently, school system which is limited to training, neglecting the education. Jovanović’s critics become especially actual nowadays, when the Bologna reforms directs high education system towards the market, when globalization process challenges the preservation of cultural identities, and intellectuals remain passive observers of negative social processes.
