Summary/Abstract: Only when incorporated in a specific theoretical framework, the concept of life style acquires its scientific validity. I found theory of human needs and of ways these needs are satisfied the most suitable framework for understanding the concept of life style. In the hierarchy of human needs — and some wrongly believe in unchangable one, with primary needs always and for ever dominant — a special place belongs to cultural needs. The ways human neds are satisfied — and among them cultural ones also — determine a life stvle. Some of life styles should be considered as enforced by a specifis civilization! context. Big cities are one of the universalia of our civilization, and as such a determinant of both a life style and of forms of cultural communication
