Summary/Abstract: The translation of fairy tales presents a number of interesting aspects form the vantage point of translation theory, in that sometimes the purpose of thetranslated text differs from that of the original, and the target readership itself may differ. Equally challenging is the issue of cultural transfer, the handling of the culture-specific elements so numerous in the case of fairy tales. The present paper discusses the strategies adopted in this respect in two different translations of a famous Romanian fairy tale.
