Summary/Abstract: The teacher is an important part of every educational system. Teachers activities are important foreducational institutions and the success of education reforms. The pedagogical shape of educational institutions depends on their knowledge, experience, professionalism, passion and innovativeactivities.Teachers of pre-school education in the educational environment are often underestimated andare treated as less important. Despite the increasing qualifications, getting more levels of professional advancement, taking up innovative activities, pre-school education teachers (mainly women)are perceived as “babysitters” filling children’s time while their parents are work hard.Nowadays requirements for teachers are still growing. It is not enough for the teacher to bekind and cordial. From teachers expected are a professional approach and preparation for management the child’s development. Despite this, the rank of pre-school education and pre-schoolteacher education it’s still low.The aim of the article is present a person of a pre-school teacher and show the discrepanciesbetween her/his competences, social expectations, and prestige.
