Summary/Abstract: This article describes the various crimes and forms of terrorization committed by the German occupying army and the Volksdeutschers in Banat during the occupation. The crimes first occurred during the April war of 1941 and were continued until the liberation of Banat in the autumn of 1944. In the course of three and a half years of occupation 56.000 people, mainly of Serbian descent, were tortured in prisons and concentration camps and 10.000 were executed. In addition, numerous economic and cultural institutions were destroyed or plundered, while the Serbs, deprived of all rights, were put to forced labor on land owned by Germans or were compelled to relinquish their own land to the enemy.
