Summary/Abstract: The Concordat between the Holy See and the Republic of Poland from 1993 has a preamble. The purpose of this paper is to answer the question whether in the specific case of the Polish concordat, the general principle, which states that the preamble to law helps to interpret it, is working. To consider the matter, some points are discussed which refer mainly to the subject matter of the preamble. The conclusion is ambivalent. The preamble in question may be helpful in explaining the meaning of the provisions of the fundamental part of the concordat. However, due to the editorial shortcomings or vague wording of the preamble, it may make the process of interpretation more difficult.
