Summary/Abstract: In the second half of the 18th century, the Catholic Church began to pay more attention to new pastoral forms, parish control, and started more actively monitoring clergy and communities. Frequent and comprehensive visits to churches and monasteries were identified as one of the best such measures. This article introduces and publishes the visit of Kaunas barefoot Karmelite Monastery that took place in 1818. This visit provides important information about the condition Kaunas barefoot Carmelite Monastery and the Church of the Holy Cross was in during the second decade of 19th century. The visit reflects the consequences of the Tsar's occupation and Napoleon's journey. The visit also mentions the physical condition of the monastery and the church, monastery‘s financial situation (costs and income), and the obligations that the peasants had to the monastery. The numbers of liturgical supplies, clothes and books available are listed, people who haved lived there are accounted for. The aim of the article is to present the visit of 1818 as an important source for the study of the situation of barefoot Carmelite Monastery and to determine its condition during that time.
