Summary/Abstract: The article presents the law basics and practical activities of Roman and Greek Catholic chaplains in the prisons of Eastern Galicia in the interwar period. It was explained that the chaplains carried out their pastoral activities as contract employees: they celebrated mass, arranged religious conversations, conducted retreats and confessions, gave spiritual care to prisoners who were ill, held funerals in prison, etc. It was shown that despite difficult financial conditions, chaplains undoubtedly played an important role in the daily life of prisoners of the three south-eastern provinces of Poland.
