Summary/Abstract: The expression akorát, which means “just,” “exactly,” or “only,” is classified in glossaries as an adverband emphatic, as well as a restrictive particle and conjunction. In sentences the expression may imply a presupposition, or it may signal focus while functioning as a focus-sensitive particle. This article would like to draw attention to a large number of occurrences of the expression akorát as anadversative conjunction, obtained by analyzing a random sample in SYN2015 and ORAL2013 corpora. The aforementioned analysis has shown that the restrictive meaning of the expression akorát mostoften overlaps with its adversative function. The article also stresses the differences in meaning between two synonymous expressions: akorát and akorát že. A parallel corpus has provided information about equivalent Croatian words used in translations of the expression which is used as a conjunction in Czech. In these examples, translators mainly use the Croatian conjunction samo withits restrictive meaning, multi-word conjunctions and the conjunction ali, which has proven to bea problematic translation choice in this type of context.
