Summary/Abstract: Many sociologists have attributed several negative characteristics to the contemporary period. The child of 21st century is lost in this postmodern society, so it needs, more than ever before, a beacon – a prosocial role model. Several studies have confirmed the irreplaceable importance of the principal role models – parents and teachers – in the development of a child. However, the amount of time that parents and teachers dedicate to the upbringing of children is reduced, therefore it is necessary to look for other effective strategies of upbringing children. In the view of the author of this study, one of the means for upbringing and educating children is a literary character as a prosocial role model. The study presents four prosocial literary role models in modern Slovak fairy tales, which can be utilised by educators in the upbringing of junior school aged children.
