Summary/Abstract: This paper examines prophetic aspects and perspectives of poetry written by Czesław Miłosz – Polish poet of 20th century, a Nobel Prize winner. Although the poet denies readiness to become a religious figure, he serves as a prophet when he overcomes the inexpressibility of the indefinable features of religious experience. The paper presents an analysis of selected poems questioning the role of a poet and a poem in the light of the dynamic relation between the prophet and prophecy. Miłosz refuses to be God’s spokesmen but the historical context he lives in overshadows his poems and forces them to play a significant role in a broad context.
