Funeral Liturgy and the Related Customs in a selected Parish of Metz diocese in France

Summary/Abstract: The article presents postconciliar funeral rites practiced in the Church of France. The author discusses the ritual, which has been prepared in the spirit of the Vatican Council II renewal and adapted to the needs of the Roman-catholic Church in the French-speaking countries. The main exposed issue is the theology of these rites, associated with the Christian initiation displayed in eschatological context. There has also been presented a specific sociological and religious situation of the faithful in France and their influence upon the quality of participation in the funeral liturgy.
