Summary/Abstract: This article examines two French translations of the famous poem of Leopardi, ”The Infinite”. Bonnefoy and Jaccottet both share the concept of translation as a parallel activity, inseparable from the poetic creation. The comparison of the two versions highlights how, even through different translation solutions, both can penetrate to the deepest core of the Italian poem and return, if not the metrical composition, its musical truth.
