Summary/Abstract: James Kenworth analyzes through his own work-experience in theatre, how creation outside the traditional theatrical space can become a tool of access and participation for a community. He created his performance, Revolution Farm, which is a contemporary, urban reinterpretation of George Orwell’s Animal Farm by taking in consideration the environment and space of an inner-city farm in London. Inspired also by the contemporary movements of social disobedience, the performance deals with the issue of social justice in a place located in one of London’s most neglected areas, but in the close vicinity of one of the wealthiest centres of the city. In his writing Kenworth also looks for answers to the question of the aesthetics implied by the use of non-traditional/local spaces, with the aim of creating a theatre that is rooted in a local neighbourhood’s social, economic and cultural fabric.
