Summary/Abstract: The iceberg model of culture is useful to describe three levels of difficulties that translators face when they come across differences between the initial culture and the target culture. This model serves as a starting point for reflection on the possible translations of fragments of texts that reflect the level of culture called semi-visible. I will use as an example a brief quote from the novel Hopscotch by Julio Cortázar and its translation into Polish by Zofia Chądzyńska.
