AN UNDERSTANDING OF THE SOCIETAL CHANGE AND DEVELOPMENT OF AMIRAN KURTKAN BILGISEVEN

Summary/Abstract: This study covers the views of Amiran Kurtkan Bilgiseven who made important contributions for the development of sociology in Turkey. It was seen on this matter that he had numerous studies on this issue that entered into the field of interest of sociology. However, the method with a direct connection on the issue of either sociological or societal development has been given a place in the understandings of societal change and development. Because he thought that method was a necessity not for the progression of science but for the increase of human quality. Moreover, he argued that the road leading to perfection in terms of social order passed through societal development, which is associated with change. Because according to him, social change brings together industrialization and development. In this context, he made significant attributions to culture on the issue of the realization of these phenomena and processes and to the value-judgements of Turkish-Islamic culture specific to Turkey.
