Summary/Abstract: Organizations are constantly looking for new ways and methodologies to improve their performance and gain a competitive advantage. Although many of them focused on their own business processes, many organizations recognize the importance of learningfrom the best practices that have been achieved by other organizations. Therefore, benchmarking has become an important methodology in organizational development. Even though very old applications were introduced at the early 1980s, benchmarking has been perceived as an important tool in increasing organizational performance. Business by benchmarking the sector leaders of same or different sectors with themselves, they gain the best applications of them to own business. Benchmarking has been successfully applied by organizations of different sizes and in different sectors and has become one of the most popular management tools.
