Summary/Abstract: The Senegalese official language, which is French, enjoys a privileged status, compared to local or autochthonous languages. It occupies the position of high variety in the diglossia 1 French-Wolof. That status makes it a prestigious language whose mastery, through the strict observation of its scholarly or academic norms, shows a psychosocial and meliorative status of its speaker. It also favours the access to a certain socio-professional status. For all that, do the students in Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar (U.C.A.D) observe the academic norms of French during their daily communication in French? Are the academic norms their norms? Do they have a recognized competence in French? This paper aims at making a description of some syntactic and morpho-syntactic characteristics of speeches of students from U.C.A.D. The main idea that motivated this study is empirical. As a teacher in this university for some years now, and thus, being in a position of an observer, I have noticed some syntactic and morpho-syntactic specificities in their use of the French language.
