Summary/Abstract: In this article I was not concerned with describing the spiritual tribulations experimented by the male character of the short novel “De la noi, la Cladova”, by Gala Galaction, but in highlighting the beauty of the feminine soul, totally in love until death. In contrast with the pathetic wrath between the love for a woman and the love for God, between the passion and duty of the priest, appears the unique love of a woman dying in the absence of love. Although the short distance between them in the profane terrestrial geography, the two lovers are separated from the prejudices of the world in which they live, from the deep and dark waters of the Danube and God himself. On the profane horizon of existence in their families and communities, but also on the sacred vertical of moral and spiritual reporting to the superior plan of the absolute, the intimate proximity of the two is forbidden. As Agape or Eros, love remains purely selfish: God does not share his priest with a woman, and the woman, according to Christian precepts, can spiritualise her flesh by the desires of Eros only through Thanatos. Like the lovers of the biblical chapter “Song of Songs”, Tonea and Borivoje sublimate the sensual eroticism of the body in a metaphysical love.
